Dr. Steven Engelsman (*1949 in the Netherlands) is a historian of mathematics. He has been curator and deputy director at the National Museum of the History of Science in Leiden, the Netherlands. In 1992, he was appointed as director general of the National Museum of Ethnology, also in Leiden. Both museums have undergone complete renovation and reinstallation of their galleries. From 2012 through 2017 he was the director of the Museum für Völkerkunde in Vienna. The museum changed its name to Weltmuseum Wien in 2013, was reopened in the fall of 201 and was rewarded the Kenneth Hudson Award for the most innovative museum in 2019. He lives in Leiden, the Netherlands and is member of the board of the flemish-dutch journal Museumpeil.
